Tanya Akhmetgalieva was born in Kemerovo in 1983. In 2002 graduated from Kemerovo Regional Art College. From 2005 to 2011 studied in St. Petersburg State Academy of Arts and Industry by A. Stieglitz at the department of Fine Textiles. From 2005 to 2008 studied in Pro Arte Institute of St. Petersburg Art and Culture Fund on course «New Technologies in Modern Art».
Creates textile panels, objects, installations, as well as video and graphics. The fabric in her works acts as an analogue of the graphic technique. Embroidery threads are endowed with a metaphorical meaning – it is an allegory of complex interrelationships between objects, people. Fantastic and real images are embodied in the works, Akhmetgalieva creates something between a fairy tale and a reflection of the surrounding world.
In 2010, her project “pupal stage” reached the final of the Kandinsky Prize 2010 in the category “Young Artist. Project of the Year”. In 2015 project «Allergy to dust» won the first prize of Sergey Kuryokhin Contemporary Art Award in the category “The best project of visual art”.
Lives and works in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
