Daniel Richter was born in Eutin, Germany in 1962. He started to paint at the age of 12. Richter studied at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg (1991 - 1995).
At his very first solo exhibitions the artist presented abstract paintings. Than he gradually proceeded to figurative art filling his artworks with mythical creatures. Daniel Richter refers to academic and contemporary art and realities of modern society, politics and mass media translating all of those themes into a metaphorical language of his paintings.
Today Richter is one of the most popular German artists. He was exhibited at Center Pompidou in Paris and Saatchi Gallery in London, designed theater decorations (for instance, Lulu opera in Vera Nemirova's production) and taught at the Universität der Künste Berlin and The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
