Regina Gallery announces solo exhibition of Victor Alimpiev Centimetre: a Colour Cut of Darkness Quantifiable Algae, Also Known as Smoke. The project includes the newest pieces by the artist — video and painting.
Centimetre is a dual-channel video that depicts a silent but violent quarrel. On one screen, girls make hand signals addressing the group on the second screen. They commute like a conductor and an orchestra, with slight but furious and expressive gestures. Repeating the sequence of movements, the leading group merges into a single entity; the recieving group responds obstinatly, switching from soft patter to breathless tap dance.
Their gestures wound gently the targets — canvases on the walls. The paintings depict girls' movements as precise irreversible images floating in colourful misty space.
Since the solo exhibition Radiant, this is the first artist's project held at the Gallery.
