Pavel Pepperstein: Battles

28 May - 6 June 2003

On the 22nd of June, when the Eastern Front of World War II began, an exhibition dedicated to the battle-painting was openned.
However, the series is based on a type of drawings boys of the pre-juvenile age tend to made — on either side of a sheet two armies who approach each other. One of them is usually called “our people”, another one — “enemies” (the red army and the white army, the Soviet people and the fascists, the musketeers and the cardinal’s guardsmen, Native Americans and European settlers, etc.) However, more neutral images also take place (“the battle of the Englishmen and the Frenchmen”).
