REGINA gallery is delighted to present a new exhibition of Sergey Bratkov «WE ARE NOT HERE». Works of Sergey Bratkov have taken part in many artistic projects and are often taken ambiguously.
In the latest works Sergey Bratkov explores the poetic of the everyday: the man with all his weak points and shortcomings mixed with an unfading joy of life. WE ARE NOT HERE is a metaphor of contemporary real life here and now. Bratkov is always at the peak of social sentiments, rather often his ideas are ahead of his time. It was him who in the beginning of the 90’s together with Boris Mikhailov and Sergey Solonskiy organised «The Group of Fast Response». This art group then conducted a number of striking performances — «A box of three letters», «If I were a German» — which are now among the masterpieces of the post-soviet art.
Sergey Bratkov was born in 1960 in Kharkov (Ukraine).
From 2000 he lives in Moscow and works on photo series, video art, installations and performances.
Bratkov participated in Sao Paulo Biennale (2002), Manifesta (2004), Venice Biennale (2003, 2007, 2011). He is a winner of the «Innovation» state prize in the section «The work of visual art» (2009).
Bratkov’s works are presented in such museums as MAMM (Moscow, Russia), Museum of Contemporary Art M HKA (Antwerpen, Belgium), Galicia Contemporary Art Center (Santiago-de-Compostela, Spain), Museum of Photography in Winterthur (Winterthur, Switzerland), as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
